They usually hide during the day close to the marshes and edges of the water. You’re more likely to see them around sunrise or sunset, in the water rather than out.
This time, we went around the whole boardwalk without seeing any gators and were a bit disappointed; but low and behold, we had a grand finale waiting for us at the very end of our tour. A huge gator, on land, right in front us waiting for his snack: a turtle. Don’t worry, the turtle got away!

- Use sunblock: Florida can trick you and even if it’s cloudy, you’re still getting rays!
- Wear sunglasses: it’s bright out there and there are areas that have absolutely no shade.
- Bring a bottle of water: there are no vending machines or anything along the boardwalk and you don’t want to get dehydrated.
- Check the weather: if it’s raining, you won’t want to walk the boardwalk, but you can still check out the nature center. Pro Florida tip: always bring an umbrella even if it’s sunny, you never know!
